If you are heading down to the Wyndham Harbour Challenge this 21-22 February, you are already in for a massive weekend of racing action. But while the Superboats are the main event, the Werribee Surrounds has plenty to see and do that make it worth staying for the whole weekend.

Whether you are a local or making the trip from across Victoria, here is how you can fill the gaps between the roar of the engines.

Mini Golf at Wyndham Harbour

Before the first heat kicks off or during a break in the racing, you do not even have to leave the marina to keep the family entertained. Mini Golf at Wyndham Harbour is right here on-site. It is a great way to let the kids burn off some energy while staying close enough to hear the boats warming up in the pits. Plus, you get a rather spectacular view of the yachts while you play.

3030 Waterfront

When you are ready for a break from the sun, you simply cannot get much closer to the action than 3030 Waterfront. Located right at the end of the quay within the harbour, this freshly renovated spot offers a front-row seat to the racing with a relaxed, Mediterranean-inspired vibe. It is a favourite for a reason—nothing beats watching the Superboats fly past while you are relaxing on the deck with a cocktail or a cold beer in hand.

The menu, designed for long lunches and sharing with friends allows you to tuck into fresh, locally sourced seafood like Portarlington mussels, natural oysters, and kingfish crudo, or go for one of their signature hand-stretched pizzas. If you are after something more substantial, their Mediterranean share plates and seasonal salads are perfect for a warm February day. For the kids, there is a dedicated menu featuring all the classics like pasta and baby pizzas.

Behind the bar, you will find a great selection of draft beers, local wines, and a creative cocktail list—the spritzes are a notable highlight for a summer afternoon. Whether you choose to sit under the large umbrellas on the terrace to soak up the salty air or head inside to the bright, airy dining room, 3030 Waterfront is the ultimate place to soak up the harbour atmosphere and enjoy a world-class meal while the "Formula 1 of the Sea" roar in the background.

Werribee South Foreshore & Beach

If the kids need a bit of a "reset" from the noise, a 15-minute stroll (or a 2-minute drive) down the coastal trail brings you to the Werribee South Beach. It is a classic, calm bay side beach with a great playground and plenty of space for a picnic. A perfect spot to spend a quiet hour in the morning before the afternoon's high-octane racing ramps up.

The RAAF Museum

For the gear-heads and history buffs, the RAAF Museum is just a 10-minute drive away in Point Cook. If you think the Superboat engines are impressive, wait until you see the vintage fighter jets up close. It is free to enter (just remember to book your spot online first.) It's a great companion trip for fans of high-performance aircraft.

Werribee Open Range Zoo

Only 10-minutes inland from the harbour, you will find the Werribee Open Range Zoo , which is essentially a slice of the Savannah right here in Victoria. If you are making a weekend of the Superboat Championships, heading here on Sunday morning before the final races is a guaranteed winner.

There are several ways to explore the grounds depending on the level of adventure you are after. The most popular option is the Free Safari Bus, which is included with your entry ticket. It takes you on a guided journey across the open plains where you are able to see giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and antelopes all living together. For those who want to get even closer, the Deluxe Safari Adventure is a brilliant upgrade; it is a 75-minute small-group tour in an open-sided vehicle that allows you to head off-road for incredible photo opportunities and a more personal experience with the keepers.

If you are an early riser, the Early Morning Savannah Experience offers an exclusive glimpse into the zoo before the gates officially open to the public. You are able to follow the keepers on their morning rounds, watch training sessions, and even assist with food preparation. For those more interested in local wildlife, the Australian Experience provides up-close access to iconic animals like koalas and kangaroos. There is even a Ranger Mystery Tour where the itinerary changes every single day based on what the animals are up to, ensuring no two visits are ever the same. Whether you are hopping on the safari or exploring the walking trails to see the lions and gorillas, it is a great wat for families to spend the day and a wonderful change of pace from the high-octane energy of the harbour.

Werribee Park Mansion

Just a stone’s throw from the Zoo and a quick ten-minute drive from the harbour, the stunning Werribee Park Mansion feels worlds away from the high-speed racing. This 19th-century Italianate masterpiece is one of the grandest estates in Australia, and it offers a massive range of experiences for every type of visitor. Step back in time as you wander through the meticulously preserved halls, or you might prefer to explore the ten hectares of formal gardens and the broader Werribee Regional Park, which features fantastic cycling and walking trails perfect for a bit of fresh air between race heats.

If you are looking to lean into the luxury side of the weekend, there are plenty of ways to indulge. Book a world-class High Tea for a sophisticated afternoon, or perhaps enjoy delightful treats at The Parlor Cafe.

Whether you are interested in the rich history of the Chirnside family, looking to explore the hidden grotto and lake, or simply want to find a quiet corner on the expansive grounds for a family picnic, the Werribee Park Mansion Grounds provides a magnificent backdrop to your weekend. It is a brilliant way to balance the high-octane energy of the Superboats with a bit of heritage and tranquility.

Victoria State Rose Garden

If you are a fan of natural beauty, you simply cannot miss the Victoria State Rose Garden. Located in the same precinct as the Mansion and only 10 minutes from the harbour. It was actually the first rose garden outside of Europe to receive the International Award of Excellence, and once you step inside, it is easy to see why.

The garden is shaped like a giant Tudor Rose and features over 5,000 roses in bloom from November to April. Because the Superboat Championships take place in February, you will be visiting during the summer flush when the colours and fragrances are at their most intense. It is completely free to enter, and the wide, flat paths make it very easy to navigate if you are pushing a pram or just want a leisurely stroll. It is the perfect, peaceful contrast to the high-energy atmosphere of the race pits.

Shadowfax Winery & Barrel Room

If you are looking to do some wine tasting between race days, Shadowfax Winery is tucked away within the same park precinct. It is only a 10-minute drive from the racing, but the atmosphere is pure relaxation. Their selection of local wines are top-tier, and the barrel room is definitely worth a look for a quick tasting.

Werribee Park Golf Club

Finally, for those who would rather be on the green, the Werribee Park Golf Club is literally a stone’s throw from the Mansion. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the river, the views are incredible. It is a great way to start your Saturday morning early before heading down to the water for the afternoon Superboat sessions.

Planning Tip: Everything on this list is within a 10–12 minute drive of the racing at Wyndham Harbour, so you can easily mix and match to build your perfect weekend. Check out Visit Werribee for even more local tips.
