First some news and a wrap from the last race followed by details of the next two races.
Both Rose of Wyndham and James of Wyndham participated in the Jennifer Goldsmith trophy race at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron last weekend (Sunday, Feb. 18) with crews of 4 and 5 respectively. Rose was crewed by Edel, Aimee, and Melinda with Michael as a mentor and they eventually prevailed in a race-long tussle with Jennifer, Jill and Dianne assisted by Brian and Robert aboard James.
The lead change once on the first lap and three times on the second lap to see Rose cross the line just 74 seconds ahead of James after nearly three hours of close racing.
The WHWST polo shirts have arrived (see below) and they look wonderful, big thank you to the Wyndham Harbour Marina for providing the uniform. I’m looking forward to the traditional post-race team photo this week with everyone decked out.
Eight of the 20 members in the WHWST have now competed in a race aboard Rose or James in the three races so far this summer. Our objective is to get that number up to at least 13 over the remaining two races of the PPWCS. With that target in mind, the next two races are –
- Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Val Hodge trophy Sunday, March 4, 1 pm.
- Royal Brighton Yacht Club, Brighton Lady Skippers Series (BLiSS) Sat/Sun April 28/29.
Both races are available on the Wyndham Harbour Women’s Sailing team registration page so please register early to secure a place. Crew training dates are also available on the registration page for those who still need to familiarise themselves with the boats and I have scheduled a delivery trip for Rose of Wyndham from Wyndham Harbour to Williamstown on Saturday if that is a better opportunity for you to get to know the boats.
