Bringing Sailing to the western suburbs of Melbourne
Alamanda College, in partnership with Wyndham Harbour Marina and ‘The Boatshed’ Sailing Australia, has recently developed a strong relationship with the intention of bringing sailing to the students and children of the western suburbs of Melbourne.
The Program will promote on the water education and activity for students from culturally diverse backgrounds including aboriginal children and students with disabilities.
We are currently seeking funds to construct a boat shed/classroom and 12 optimists (sailing Dingy’s) where sailing optimist can be housed and students can participate in a nationally accredited sailing program, hosted by Sailing Australia.
The goal is to give all children in the western suburbs, in particular, those living along the coastal areas, (Victorias largest growth corridor) fundamental skills that they need to develop as they grow up promoting water safety, self-reliance decision making, collaboration, confidence and independence.
By providing a boat shed, students from surrounding schools will have access to participate in a sailing program on a permanent basis, so schools and other organisations can organise programs and activities for students across the academic year.
