First rocks dropped into the Marina
Wyndham Harbour breaks waves in Melbourne’s west
Construction on Melbourne’s highly anticipated Wyndham Harbour marina has commenced with 30,000 tonnes of rock ready to be dropped into the water to form the backbone of the new marina. The building of the southern breakwater of the marina is an important milestone for the new civic centre and will be undertaken by BMD Constructions.
Wyndham Harbour’s vision is to create Melbourne’s premium master-planned marina community and the architect-designed central piazza will bring this vision to life.
Renowned architects, Fender Katsalidis Mirams envisioned the marina square precinct along with the sold-out Marina Quays Apartments.
Karl Fender, Founding Director of Fender Katsalidis Mirams worked with Tract Landscape Architects and Urban Planners to develop the retail and dining setting that will become the thriving centre and activity hub of Wyndham Harbour.
“The design focuses on bringing residents and visitors together in a central space that capitalises on the unique views over the harbour.
“By capturing the essence of the pristine surroundings and coastal lifestyle, Marina Square will be a vibrant village centre in the City of Wyndham,” Mr Fender said.
Work on the marina is expected to be completed by the end of 2013, and will provide up to 1000 berths and up to 390 dry boat storage in the only approved safe boat harbour between Williamstown and Geelong.
General Manager of the Boating Industry Association Victoria, Mr Clyde Batty, is highly supportive of the Wyndham Harbour project.
“Recreational boating is increasing in popularity in Victoria particularly amongst families, therefore it is important to provide a safe environment with these types of facilities and amenities to create a great base from which participants can enjoy Melbourne’s waters.”
Melbourne’s western region is Australia’s fastest growing municipality and the Wyndham Harbour precinct will deliver a much-needed marina and residential development to the area.
Once complete, the world-class lifestyle and boating hub will include a marina, safe boat harbour, waterfront homes and apartments, new walking and bike trails, lush green parks, beaches and the vibrant central Marina Square retail area.
